Who answers for this site

whatcauseshormonalacne.com is an independent information site, and the site itself is responsible for the data described here. Send any question about your data to privacy@whatcauseshormonalacne.com.

What gets recorded

Visit statistics. Which pages you open, the page that linked you here, how long you stay, how far you scroll, the buttons and links you tap, and broad device facts such as screen size, browser language and time zone.

The cause check. The boxes you tick on the home page stay in your browser. Only the fact that a box changed, and which one, is counted with the visit statistics.

Server logs. The hosting company keeps IP addresses, browser types and requested addresses so the site stays safe and online.

Where the statistics go

Your browser sends visit statistics to /api/compass, an address on this site. From there they go to an analytics provider (EU) that stores them in the European Union. Your IP address travels along so an approximate country can be derived. A random code in session storage ties together the pages of one visit and disappears when the tab closes, so separate visits can't be linked. No cookies are set for statistics. Visitors in the EU are only counted after they press "Allow".

The analysis link

Buttons such as "Start my analysis" go through whatcauseshormonalacne.com/cause-check and then open acne.today, a separate paid service. The link tells acne.today which page and which button you came from, and the top answer from the cause check if you used it. Any photo, answer or payment you give acne.today is covered by its own privacy policy.

On what basis

For EU visitors, statistics run on your consent; change it any time with "Statistics choice" at the bottom of the home page. For everyone else, statistics and server logs rest on the site's legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. Emails are kept so we can answer them.
